Whatever your opinion on Millennials, there’s one thing about this generation that can’t be argued: They know what they want.

Millennials are accustomed to on-demand access to up-to-the-minute information, which means they will almost always prefer a digital solution to an analog one. Wayfinding software is a great example of the kind of technology that satisfies the Millennial desire to be in control and connected at all times.

Here are four reasons wayfinding software appeals to Millennials.

1. Wayfinding Software is Interactive

It isn’t as if Millennials have never used paper maps before, but most Millennials had only been driving a few years when GPS devices were introduced. This means for the majority of the time since they got their licenses, Millennials have had access to real-time, turn-by-turn maps that update based on the location data they provide the device. Since either Google Maps or Apple Maps is a staple in their personal lives, they appreciate the same advantages wayfinding software provides in their professional lives.

2. Wayfinding Software Encourages Collaboration

Growing up, most Millennials participated in at least one (and usually multiple) team sports, which has translated to a preference for working in groups as adults. Wayfinding software, when integrated with room reservation software, allows Millennial employees to instantly determine the location of a colleague as well as their proximity to an open meeting room and then reserve the space for an ad hoc brainstorming session.

3. Wayfinding Software is Adaptive and Customizable

Technology has allowed companies to create more and more personalized experiences for their clients, a fact Millennials appreciate. Not only does wayfinding software guide the user during their unique journey, but it can also take data from space management platforms to identify behavioral patterns on an individual level, which can help customize the user experience even further.

For example, if the software recognizes a particular area of a corporate campus is consistently crowded during a particular time of day, it can direct the user to an alternate route to ensure he or she avoids any slowdowns. Or, if the user would prefer to avoid certain buildings, he or she can alert the app so routes can be adjusted accordingly.

4. Wayfinding Software Increases Efficiency

The life of a Millennial is active. There is always new media to consume, new opportunities to learn and new technology to try. As a result, they are usually on the lookout for ways to complete tasks more quickly and efficiently. Wayfinding software can decrease the time wasted trying to find an available conference room and also prevent employees from having to walk back and forth across campus to attend several different meetings that all could have been in the same building.

Using wayfinding appAbove anything else in their professional lives, Millennials want to achieve a sense of accomplishment and to believe their work has had an impact on the world around them. Tools like wayfinding software empower Millennials to achieve higher levels of productivity and feel more valuable, which, in turn, increases their job satisfaction. And the greater the fulfillment a Millennial gains via his or her job, the more likely he or she is to stay with the company.
